ELECTRONIC
CERTIFICATES

What are electronic certificates?

An electronic certificate is a computer file issued by a Trust Service Provider that technically and legally guarantees the identity of a person in their transactions on the Internet and links the verification and signature data to a signatory.

Therefore, electronic certificates allow both identification and electronic signature. In addition, they are indispensable tools for institutions to offer secure services over the Internet.

What are QUALIFIED certificates?

Qualified certificates are issued by a Qualified Trust Service Provider and are ruled by Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014

Qualified certificates for electronic signatures must meet a number of specific requirements, which are listed in Annex I of the Regulation.

Legal

Effects

Qualified electronic signature certificates have a presumption of legal validity, i.e. they cannot be denied legal effect or admissibility as evidence in legal proceedings.

Furthermore, a qualified certificate issued in any of the Member States of the Union must be recognised and is valid in all other Member States.
